MLMA transforms H&M Seongsu in Seoul into an immersive surrealist world where fashion, contemporary art, music and retail collide.

In Seoul’s Seongsu district, where cafés, galleries, fashion labels, and old industrial buildings compete for attention, an H&M store has decided to stop behaving like a store. Its latest transformation, *I SEE YOU*, is the work of South Korean multidisciplinary artist MLMA, and it begins with something difficult to ignore: a giant head, pierced and red-eyed, watched over by tattooed hands.

MLMA—short for Me Love Me A Lot—has built a visual language somewhere between beauty experiment, internet absurdity, fashion, music, and digital art. Her career emerged not from the conventional gallery system but through social media, where distorted bodies, surreal characters, and deliberately strange images became a form of authorship. Her wavy eyebrows alone once became an international beauty phenomenon.
The shop has become a stage—and the customer, briefly, part of the work.
At H&M Seongsu, that digital universe has been given walls, floors, scale, and physical presence.
Opened on July 23, 2026, *I SEE YOU* occupies several levels of the flagship, turning the retail environment into an immersive exhibition. Visitors encounter a giant rabbit sculpture named Kuroo, a pink-haired unicorn, themed rooms, and spaces shaped by music and MLMA’s surreal visual vocabulary.
The ambition is less to decorate a shop than to alter the relationship between visitor and space. MLMA describes each level as its own emotional world, drawing visitors progressively deeper, while insisting that the environment is intended for participation rather than observation.

That distinction matters. The contemporary fashion store increasingly resembles the contemporary gallery—not because clothing has disappeared, but because shopping has become only one part of the experience. Seoul has already perfected this logic through brands such as Gentle Monster and Tamburins, whose theatrical spaces have become destinations in themselves.
H&M’s collaboration with MLMA pushes that strategy into stranger territory. An exclusive denim capsule extends her imagery from the installation onto garments and accessories, allowing the exhibition to leave the building with its visitors.
The result is retail as spectacle, fashion as environment, and art as something you walk through rather than simply look at. In Seongsu, the shop has become a stage—and the customer, briefly, part of the work.

  • The installation merges fashion, contemporary art, music and digital culture, reflecting MLMA’s distinctive visual universe and surrealist aesthetic.
  • The project signals the evolution of fashion retail into cultural experience, with the exclusive MLMA x H&M denim capsule extending the installation into wearable design.
