Inhabiting the quiet
Space unfolds as a sequence of atmospheres rather than rooms. Visitors move freely through the apartment as participants: surfaces absorb or reflect light, materials shift in depth and temperature, and transitions unfold gradually, encouraging a slower way of being in space. Ceilings rise unexpectedly, thresholds create a sense of theatre, and daylight is treated as a material in its own right.
The project blurs the lines between furniture and architecture. Custom elements are integrated into the structure; tiled planes introduce rhythm and colour, while reflective finishes shift with the light. The bedrooms respond to this language with contrasts of intimacy and openness, bathrooms use saturated yellow tiling for a playful yet refined statement, and a flexible second room adapts as a guest bedroom, office or library. A private balcony and patio extend living outdoors.
A curated selection of Portugal-based designers and artists — Sebastião Lobo, 3TWINS, Frederico Oliveira Vaz, Studio Lilium and Odara Studio — is embedded within the environment, their works entering into dialogue with the architecture, extending its language and reinforcing its atmosphere.
Aether is not presented as a finished image, but as a living condition: a prototype for a different way of inhabiting the city, where domestic space becomes a place of regulation and quiet intensity.
